Karachi: Eight people were killed in a fire at a multi-storey shopping mall on Saturday on Rashid Minhas Road in Karachi.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has confirmed the death toll in his X, which was previously Twitter.
“He wrote,” he wrote, adding that he was aware of the number of bodies being transferred to various hospitals in the city، “The KMC Fire Department has so far confirmed that there have been 9 deaths in the fire.
“The search is still going on,” he added in the post.
According to fire brigade officials, about 50 people trapped inside the RJ shopping mall on a busy city artery have been rescued in a rescue operation involving two snorkels There are eight fire tenders and one bowser.
A spokesman for Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) said he had found seven bodies، While a rescue official said one body had been transferred to a civil hospital and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The injured have been transferred to a nearby healthcare facility for treatment. The condition of six of the injured is critical, officials said.
Rauf Hamid, rescued from the building, told Geo News that many people were still trapped.

Sindh caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Mubli Baqir has expressed regret over the loss of life as a result of the deadly fire.
The Chief Minister has ordered immediate steps to control the fire and asked for immediate medical assistance to the injured.
