How will Australia’s win over Afghanistan affect Pakistan’s chances for semis?

Despite Australia’s thrilling victory over Afghanistan, courtesy of Glenn Maxwell’s miraculous innings، Pakistan’s progress in the semi-finals of the national team is uncertain because it is not out of deep waters.

In addition to qualifying for the knockout stage of the Kangaroos, three teams have now qualified for the semi-finals, including India and South Africa —, Pakistan، Excluding New Zealand and Afghanistan are competing for “extremely competitive” space.

Even if Afghanistan wins against South Africa on November 10, They will have 10 points on the points table — like Pakistan and New Zealand if the latter two win their matches against England and Sri Lanka respectively.

However, Afghanistan’s current NRR is negative and will require a landslide victory over the Tamba Buma men to qualify for the semi-finals. Thus Pakistan’s direct competition for last place in the semi-finals is from New Zealand.

New Zealand is currently fifth with 0.398 NRR while Pakistan is sixth with 0.036 NRR.

Eligibility scenario:
If New Zealand beat SL by 50 runs, Pakistan will have to beat England by 180 runs.

If New Zealand beat SL by 1 run, Pakistan will have to beat England by 131 runs.

If SL beats New Zealand, Pakistan will only have to beat England and they will qualify.

If SL vs NZ ends due to rain then only England will have to beat to qualify Pakistan.

Match schedule
November 9 — New Zealand vs Sri Lanka @ M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, India.

November 10 — Afghanistan vs. South Africa @ Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, India.

November 11 — Pakistan vs England @ Eden Gardens, Kolkata, India.
