Woman ‘gang-raped’ in Islamabad’s F-9 park then given Rs1,000 to go home

A woman was allegedly gang-raped at gunpoint in Islamabad’s F-9 park by two unidentified men on Thursday evening.

On the complaint of the survivor, the Margala Police Station has filed an FIR regarding the incident and launched an investigation to locate the perpetrators.

After she complained to the police that she had been gang-raped, the case was filed. Samples were sent to a forensic laboratory after a medical examination at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad revealed evidence of sexual assault.

The woman was a Mian Channu resident, according to the FIR.

A man approached them with a gun as she and a friend were walking through the park. Before dragging them into a dense area of the park at gunpoint, he demanded that they hand over their valuables and other possessions.

At that point, the two friends had parted ways.

She claimed that a second person sexually abused her after the accused raped her at gunpoint.

She claimed that both men beat her up when she tried to resist.

Later, she claimed, the perpetrators returned their possessions, including mobile phones. He even gave her Rs. 1,000 and told her not to go to the park at that time of day.

The victim, whom she said she could recognize upon seeing, was urged to be apprehended by the authorities.

In the meantime, the police assert that they have gathered CCTV footage from each of the park’s four entrances and recorded the statements of the security guards stationed at each gate.

They added that the woman’s friend’s statement would also be recorded.

They claimed that Safe City surveillance footage of the area is also being used in the investigation.

Under the direction of Capital Police Officer (Operations) Sohail Zafar Chattha, the investigation is being led by the ICT police’s gender protection unit.

According to the capital police, the administration and those who were at the park at the time of the incident were being questioned.

In addition, other suspects’ DNA samples were being collected, and security camera footage and other investigations were used to gather evidence.

The authorities pledged to immediately make arrests and bring the perpetrators to justice.
