Musharraf’s body shifted to Karachi’s Malir Cantt
The MLM-567 flight carrying the body of former military dictator Pervez Musharraf reached Karachi from Dubai a few minutes past 10pm.
Then, his body was moved to Malir Cantt from the previous terminal at the airport.
The remains of the former president are accompanied by his daughter, son, and wife. Malir Cantt will receive the body.
The flight also had three members of Musharraf’s personal staff.
The flight was rescheduled earlier for logistical reasons.
At 10:15 p.m. local time, the aircraft landed at Karachi Airport after departing Al Maktoum Airport.
The coffin-carrying flight experienced two previous delays. It took off at 3 p.m. and landed at 7 p.m.
Musharraf will be buried in a Karachi cemetery, and his funeral prayers will be said at 1:45 p.m. at the Polo Ground in Malir Cantt.
The former president’s family had applied to the Pakistani consulate in Dubai to have his body returned to Pakistan.
A no-objection certificate had been issued by the Pakistani Consulate General in Dubai to make the process easier for the family.
The consulate said through Consul General Hassan Afzal Khan that they are in close contact with the family and will help in any way they can.
