Punjab Assembly Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti arrested in Sindh
Punjab Assembly Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti has been arrested in Sindh, sources said on Monday. Later on Monday, his house in Gujranwala was also raided by police and a domestic employee was arrested.
He was reportedly apprehended from Matiari by the Hyderabad police SSP, according to sources.
In various cases, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sought him.
Sources suggested that Bhatti was traveling to the Sindh High Court (SHC) to apply for protective, pre-arrest bail while he was in Sindh.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) device taken into custody after police raid Bhatti’s official residence in GOR-I later on Monday evening. Nabil, Bhatti’s domestic worker, was arrested.
Elahi protests arrest Parvez Elahi, the former chief minister of Punjab, has expressed concern regarding the arrest.
He said in a statement that he worried that Bhatti might be taken away by force.
Elahi was concerned because, “the way our legal advisor Amir Saeed Ran remains missing, he too may be subject to disappearance.”
“What kind of message is being sent if Punjabi officers begin to vanish from Sindh?” He pressed.
He warned that the Sindh administration and police chief’s actions could spark divisions between the provinces.
The former chief minister of Punjab urged Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to investigate the situation right away.
He declared, “I am confident the Sindh chief minister will stop such steps that cause unrest across provincial borders.”
Arrest at Elahi’s home?
Elahi and his son Moonis claimed later on Monday that police had raided their Gujrat residence, Kanjah House.
They claimed that the police first surrounded their house and then used ladders to climb their walls, even though they weren’t there.
Moonis asserted that law enforcement was attempting to search their home without a warrant.
He added that these methods of intimidation will not work.
Who is Muhammad Khan Bhatti? Bhatti is a government officer in grade 22 of the basic pay scale.
He and his nephew are thought to be partners in some of Elahi’s businesses, and he is also thought to be Moonis Elahi’s front man.
It is important to note that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the Punjab Anti-Corruption Department, the FIA, and the police are looking into Bhatti.
He is under investigation for alleged acts of corruption and excessive wealth and assets accumulation.
