Tragedy averted: Al Qaeda, TTP linked suspected terrorists among 9 arrested in Punjab
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of police in Punjab on Saturday claimed to have averted a major tragedy after apprehending nine suspected terrorists, including some linked to banned outfits such as Al Qaeda and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Officials from the CTD say that they carried out intelligence-based operations in four major districts of Punjab, including Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Lahore, which is the provincial capital.
Officials said they also found heavy weapons like rockets, hand grenades, automatic weapons, and even materials to make suicide jackets with explosives during the operations.
The suspects were allegedly planning terror attacks throughout the province, according to officials.
Abdul Rehman was the name of those arrested. Ghulamullah, Jalil Ahmed, Imdadullah, Basit Ali, and Junaid Ali are Rowaid Khan, Ghulamullah, and Ahmed Hassan.
They were taken into custody in seven cases while additional investigations are going on.
