Former chief selector Shahid Afridi said on Thursday that Pakistan should not have separate captains for the three formats. Afridi is against having separate captains for each Pakistan Cricket Team.
He stated that the national team only requires performances rather than coaching.

He suggested that only Pakistan-A or Under-19 teams should have coaches.

Afridi went on to say that he was approached about extending his time as head of the selection committee, but he turned it down due to his busy schedule.

He talked about making difficult choices for the country as a whole and in cricket.

Additionally, the former captain discussed the performances of players he selected for the New Zealand series.

He praised Haris Sohail and Fakhar Zaman for their roles in Pakistan’s victory.

Afridi made it clear that everyone on the selection committee wanted Sarfaraz Ahmed to play, and he also encouraged the captain who won the Champions Trophy.

He said that Babar Azam had led the team well and was doing a good job as captain. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should not have made a hasty announcement regarding a new vice-captain.

Afridi went on to say that Babar Azam needed to get better as captain and should not be afraid of losing.

In addition, he stated that Shan Masood should not have been named vice captain based solely on his performances in county cricket, implying that he lacks sufficient ODI match experience.
